GE GNE27JYMFS Water Filter Replacement With the XWFE
The GNE27JYMFS water filter is the GE XWFE. GE's own parts page for the GNE27JYMFS lists XWFE as the one filter part number for this refrigerator. We stock the genuine GE XWFE refrigerator water filter in packs of 1, 2, 3 and 6. You can confirm the match with two quick checks before you order, and both of them take under two minutes. The first check is the model number on your refrigerator. The second is the part number on the label of your old cartridge. When both checks match the XWFE, you have the right part. You can order it today and change the cartridge on the day it arrives. Written by the Water Filters FAST filter experts. Reviewed by Phil McNamara, owner, Water Filters FAST. Updated October 2026. GE lists this refrigerator as the "GE ENERGY STAR 27.0 Cu. Ft. Fingerprint Resistant French-Door Refrigerator" on its parts page. Several other GE models have numbers that start with the same GNE27J characters. If your refrigerator shows GNE27JYMKFFS or GNE27JYMNFFS, you have a sister model, and our Compatible Models tab lists the XWFE for it. Start with the model number on the refrigerator itself. Copy every letter and digit in the order you see them, because the sister models differ from the GNE27JYMFS by a few characters. A photo on your phone works well for this. You can check the photo against our Compatible Models tab while you order, and you can read the full number to the filter experts if you call us. The GNE27JYMFS appears on that tab for the XWFE. Next, look at the label on the old cartridge. If it says XWFE, you reorder the same part. If it says XWF, the XWFE is its replacement. The label on your old cartridge overrules any table on this page, because that cartridge came out of your own refrigerator. If the label is too worn to read, the model number settles the fit for the GNE27JYMFS on its own. You can make the same two checks on any other GE refrigerator in your home. Our Compatible Models tab has 448 GE model entries for the XWFE, and a second GE refrigerator may take the XWFE. If it takes a different part, our GE refrigerator water filters collection shows the GE refrigerator cartridges we stock. You may find XWF on the old cartridge and XWFE on the new box. GE renamed the XWF, and it is now the XWFE. The XWFE adds an electronic chip. On its support page for the XWFE, GE says, "The XWFE filter is backwards compatible. It can be used in refrigerators that use an XWF filter." The fit works in one direction only. GE also says, "The XWF is not forward compatible with newer models of refrigerators using the XWFE." The XWFE fits both kinds of refrigerator, and that makes it the one cartridge to order for a GNE27JYMFS or for any model that once took an XWF. The XWFE also has GE's "Leak-Detecting Sensing Technology." A new XWFE may look different from the cartridge you take out of your refrigerator. GE added slots at the top of the XWFE in a 2022 design change, and the slots do not change how the cartridge fits into the filter head. The GNE27JYMFS shares its water filter with close relatives in the GE line. Our Compatible Models tab lists the XWFE for each of these 15 models. The GNE25JYKFS water filter is the XWFE, and a home with a GNE25JYKFS and a GNE27JYMFS orders one part for both refrigerators. When your model number is missing from the table, start on our product page, where the Compatible Models tab has the full list. Look for your exact number in that list. Then check the label on your old cartridge before you order. If your number is not on the full list either, call the filter experts at 855-789-FAST, and we will check the fit with you on the phone. Each XWFE lasts six months or 170 gallons, whichever comes first. The cartridge uses carbon block media, and the flow rate is 0.5 gallons per minute. It fits select GE French door and side-by-side models, and the GNE27JYMFS is one of them. Our product page says the carbon media reduce chlorine and chloramines. The XWFE has NSF 42 and NSF 53 certification. Its third NSF certification is NSF 401. If your refrigerator has a FILTER STATUS button, you can check the life left in the cartridge at any time. GE says, "Press the FILTER STATUS button and a PERCENTAGE or the remaining life of the filter will be displayed." When the life left reaches zero, the cartridge needs a change. Order your next cartridge before that point, because a spare on hand lets you make the change on the day it comes due. With a 2 pack or a larger pack, that spare is already in your kitchen. You need no tools for the XWFE swap. GE's filter change page for its bottom freezer models says the water supply "does not have to be turned off" for a filter change. Our GE XWFE filter replacement guide shows the swap itself step by step. The reset comes after the swap and the water run. Put a large pot under the dispenser for step 5, because GE puts those 3 minutes at about 1 1/2 gallons of water. If your control panel has no RESET WATER FILTER pad, go straight from step 5 to step 7. Three flashes mean the change worked. GE says that after a good change, "the Filter Status LED will flash 3 times and the Filter Status indicator will turn OFF." If the Filter Status light stays on after the new cartridge goes in, open our guide to reset the water filter light. Each XWFE covers six months in one refrigerator, and the pack size sets how far ahead you stock up. A single cartridge suits a first order, because you can confirm the fit in your own refrigerator before you buy more. A 2 pack covers a full year, because you change one cartridge now and keep the second for six months later. A 3 pack covers 18 months. The 6 pack covers three years of changes for one refrigerator. A home with two refrigerators that both take the XWFE uses two cartridges every six months, and a 6 pack covers that home for 18 months. Every pack has the same genuine GE XWFE. All four pack sizes are on our XWFE product page, and you pick the size there before you add it to your cart. Write the install date on each new cartridge when you put it in. The next change then comes due six months after the date you wrote. It uses the XWFE, which is the only filter part GE shows for the GNE27JYMFS on its parts page. We carry the genuine GE XWFE in four pack sizes for it. The XWFE is the newer version of the XWF, and it adds an electronic chip. Any refrigerator that took an XWF can use an XWFE. The GFE26JYMFS uses the same GE XWFE as the GNE27JYMFS. Our Compatible Models tab also lists the GFE26JYMKFFS and the GFE26JYMNFFS for the XWFE. Check the full number on your refrigerator against our Compatible Models tab before you order. Order the genuine GE XWFE refrigerator water filter in the pack that covers your year. You get low prices and fast shipping on every order. We accept returns for 30 days, and our satisfaction guarantee backs every cartridge we sell. If your old cartridge shows a part number other than XWF or XWFE, have it in hand with your model number when you phone us. Call 855-789-FAST and talk it through with the filter experts before you buy. What the GE GNE27JYMFS is and how to confirm the fit
