Wicking-style evaporative humidifiers work by drawing dry household air through a wet humidifier filter. The dry air passing through the filter picks up moisture and humidifies your home. The more saturated the filter is with water, the better the output. Calcium, lime, and other hard water minerals are absorbed by wick filters and limit their ability to absorb water. A new wick filter that will fully absorb water can add gallons of water to the dry air of your home.
